Szopa’s ‘Where Do I Go’ – A Prelude to ‘The Prayerbook’

Hey folks! Today, Polish audio-visual artist Szopa is dropping a brand-new music video for his single Where Do I Go, along with the exciting announcement of his third conceptual album, The Prayerbook, set to drop on August 16th. (Pre-save it here)

Now, if you’re not familiar with Szopa, let’s get you up to speed. Born Damian Malecki in Swiebodzin, a small town in Poland near the German border, Szopa’s artistic journey began early with interests in art, poetry, and music.

He started playing piano at 16, moved to the UK to study Psychology at the University of Derby, and later landed in Sheffield, where he kicked off his music career. His first album, Hollow Trees, dropped in 2020, followed by Vital Organs in 2022. And now, he’s ready to blow our minds with The Prayerbook

So, what’s The Prayerbook all about? This album dives deep into themes like religion, devotion, and authority, mixing electronica, darkwave, and gothic pop. Szopa draws inspiration from medieval church vibes and questions faith institutions, reflecting on his upbringing in a tight-knit religious community. He explores how core values can be twisted for selfish gains, comparing religious devotion to societal devotion to figures and ideologies.

As Szopa himself puts it, “The overall theme of the album takes inspiration from medieval Roman Catholicism. I use those themes to explore the ideas of social authority in the context of capitalism, as well as exploring religious devotion in contrast with devotion towards social figures, governments, or hurtful ideologies.” It’s a thought-provoking journey through social and religious themes.

Now, let’s talk about the new single, Where Do I Go, featuring the lovely Cornish folk singer Kezia Warwood. This track is an electronic infusion gem that really digs into the big questions we all have about life, death, and what comes after. The lyrics talk about feeling alone, wanting control over our destiny, and pondering the mysteries of existence. Szopa’s production, combined with the seamless blend of his vocals with Warwood’s, makes this track an absolute must-listen.
