Surprise Reveal at SDCC 2024: First Look at Interview with the Vampire Season 3!
Surprises are always expected at the San Diego Comic-Con, and that’s part of why SDCC weekend is a huge deal for all of us who love the entertainment biz. This year’s SDCC 2024 had it all, and the AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe panel was no exception. Fans got a first peek at the upcoming Season 3 of Interview with the Vampire. And you know what? It’s everything we hoped for and more!
During the panel, which featured Mark Johnson, who oversees the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, Showrunner and Executive Producer Rolin Jones, Production Designer Mara LePere-Schloop, Composer Daniel Hart, and cast members Sam Reid (Lestat), Delainey Hayles (Claudia), and Assad Zaman (Armand), the team discussed the explosive second season and teased the recently announced third season.
They talked about the jaw-dropping conclusion of Season 2, where we saw Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat’s devastatingly romantic reunion and got a tease that Lestat would be going on tour soon, setting up the next season to adapt The Vampire Lestat.
For those unfamiliar, The Vampire Lestat delves deep into Lestat’s origins, tracing his transformation from a young man in 18th-century France to a powerful vampire. The novel explores his quest for meaning and his bold decision to expose himself to humanity as a rock star, attracting the attention of ancient vampires and awakening the formidable Akasha. This complex and riveting backstory is sure to add layers of depth to the show’s new season, and with this teaser, it’s clear how the story will flow seamlessly into the show’s universe.
According to the teaser, in the new installment of Interview With The Vampire, Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) will be directing a documentary about Lestat’s musical career. Once again, Daniel will guide the story as Lestat shares his side of events. Given Daniel and Lestat’s fiery personalities, these sessions promise to be absolutely wild. Unlike Louis, Lestat isn’t one to let someone else control the narrative, so this dynamic is going to be interesting, to say the least.
The almost four-minute teaser shown at SDCC shows Lestat in full rock god mode — an image that’s going to be seared into our minds until the season drops. We also got a taste of his singing voice, and we have to say, Sam Reid was born to play this role. Seriously, it’s like Rolin Jones shook the book during casting and out popped Reid. We know Anne Rice loved Lestat the most, and she’d be thrilled with Reid’s portrayal of him. He’s perfect. Period.
By anygays, check out the SDCC teaser below:
Wasn’t it perfect? The outfits, the wild antics, the song, the sassy interplay between Daniel and Lestat — as we already shared, it was everything we ever hoped for and more. Of all the shows currently on air, none are doing it like Interview with the Vampire. Rolin Jones is clearly THE moment; he knows exactly what he’s doing, and we’re here for all of it. After what he pulled off in Seasons 1 and 2, we have zero doubts that Season 3 will exceed all our expectations.
During the panel, Rolin said, “So much of the beauty in Anne Rice’s work is the prose. And we made a decision early on to use as much of her prose as possible.” This dedication to Rice’s prose is what makes the show so appealing to fans of Rice’s universe and newcomers alike — it’s Rice’s soul. That’s why we only trust Rolin Jones with this universe. No one else is allowed near it!
But wait, there’s more! This morning, AMC shared Lestat’s full song, and we’re floored. Titled “Long Face,” the song is pure vampiric perfection. Grab your headphones and listen — it’s going to get stuck in your head, we promise.
Based on this absolute banger, we don’t think we’re ready for how epic the Season 3 soundtrack of Interview With The Vampire will be. “Another taste, another year, another place, another tear, another chase, another sneer without a trace, you disappear, pick up the pace, pack up the gear, gimme some face, a souvenir, here come the gays, here comes the fear, now we’re having fun.”
