Red, White & Royal Wedding Officially Begins Production
This morning, yes, this fine Monday morning, we woke up to the kind of news that instantly improves your day: the Red, White & Royal Blue sequel, officially titled Red, White & Royal Wedding, is now in production. Yes! At last, folks! After months of speculation, hopeful tweets, and collective queer manifestation, the much-anticipated next chapter in Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar-Perez) and Prince Henry’s (Nicholas Galitzine) love story is finally happening.
While the announcement still feels thrilling, it doesn’t come exactly as a surprise. Rumors have been swirling online for a while now, with whispers that production would kick off sometime this January. In late December, a few of the cast members seemed to all but confirm it themselves, though no official date had been locked in. Still, when a fandom as attentive (and chronically online) as this one starts connecting the dots, it’s usually only a matter of time.
Adding fuel to the fire, just last week, several cast members were spotted heading to the UK, where filming is set to take place. Taylor Zakhar-Perez and Rachel Hilson, in particular, had fans refreshing their feeds like it was a full-time job. At that point, it felt inevitable. And sure enough, today the film’s official social media accounts made it official.
The announcement came via a short but extremely effective video featuring Zakhar-Perez and Galitzine welcoming us back into their world and confirming that Red, White & Royal Wedding is officially in production. As if that wasn’t enough to send us into a spiral, the stars also used the moment to clarify one very important detail: despite the title, it’s not Alex and Henry who are getting married. Apparently, the royal wedding in question belongs to Bea (Ellie Bamber), Henry’s sister.
Now. Do we believe that for even a second? Absolutely not. But we’ll let it rest… for now.
As of today, no additional plot details have been revealed, but we do know a few key things about the creative team shaping this sequel. As previously reported, writer Gemma Burgess has joined the writing team alongside Matthew López and original author Casey McQuiston. While López won’t be returning to direct this time around, the sequel will be helmed by Jamie Babbit—a director with a long and celebrated history of queer storytelling, which honestly makes us feel very safe.
Behind the scenes, Red, White & Royal Wedding reunites a dream team of producers, including Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Michael McGrath, Matthew López, Jennifer Salke, and Casey McQuiston, who will also serve as executive producer. It’s a lineup that signals real care for this story and the queer audience that embraced it so fiercely the first time around.
For now, details are scarce, but trust us, we’re officially on royal watch. And the second more information drops, we’ll be right back here to keep you updated. In the meantime, we’ll be rewatching Red, White & Royal Blue for the millionth time, emotionally preparing ourselves, and making sure we’re more than ready to dive back into Alex and Henry’s world all over again.
