Red, White & Royal Blue Cast Members Announced!
Okay, fam saddle up! We got several hours into the first day of Pride 2022 and Amazon Studios dropped the official announcement for the Red, White & Royal Blue cast members that we’ve all been so desperately waiting for! It was revealed back in 2019 that Amazon Studios had acquired the rights to the super popular book of the same name by Casey McQuiston and fans have been anxiously awaiting to see who would be the faces of their beloved Henry and Alex ever since.
We are officially marking this first day of Pride 2022 “Alex and Henry Day” and we ain’t even sorry. Taking on the lead role of Alex Claremont-Diaz is Taylor Zakhar Perez who starred in The Kissing Booth series. Mexican-American just like Alex, the man speaks Spanish and looks the part too.
Assuming the role of Alex’s enemy turned lover, Henry – the literal Prince of England – is Nicholas Galitzine. Galitzine is best known for his roles in Handsome Devil and Amazon Studio’s own Cinderella remake.
Both Amazon Studios and Casey McQuiston took to socials today to introduce the cast members to the world, and it wasn’t long before the two actors themselves were joining in on the hoopla as well. In just a few hours, Casey’s post announcing the Red, White & Royal Blue cast garnered nearly 200 thousand likes.
While neither of these young lads seemed to be on the fandom’s radar as possible casting announcements, since the news dropped earlier today there has been quite a lot of internet flurry trying to find as much information possible about each of them.
*coughs* we might, or might not, be spending our evening watching whatever we can get our hands on to introduce ourselves to these new household names for the Q+ Magazine offices *coughs*
Deadline released a statement today from director Matthew Lopez (who also adapted the novel for the screen), “meeting with and auditioning literally hundreds of actors over these past several months has been a painstaking labor of love that has brought us this diverse and extraordinary cast, led so fantastically by Nick and Taylor … I cannot wait for the fans of the book (and indeed for the world) to find out how remarkably gifted and perfect these two actors are for bringing Henry and Alex to life.”
Other cast members include: Clifton Collins Jr., Stephen Fry, Uma Thurman, Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Ellie Bamber, Aneesh Sheth, Polo Morin, Ahmed Elhaj, and Ashkay Khanna.
In case you’re not familiar, Red, White & Royal Blue is almost presented as an alternate universe. The President of the United States is a Democratic white woman from Texas who married a Mexican man, had two mixed-race babies, got divorced, got re-married and now she is the President. Alex, her kid, is bisexual, except when the story opens, he doesn’t know this about himself. He then falls in love with the literal Prince of England (Henry), except he doesn’t realize that at first either and my goodness. Saucy, sassy, and perfection in so many ways.
Everyone needs a copy of this book. Lucky for you, we’ve already reviewed Red, White & Royal Blue for your convenience.
Watch this space as more information is released when filming begins in a month in the UK.
