Production Wraps on Gary Jaffe’s LGBTQ+ Rom-Com ‘Before I Do’

Another LGBTQ+ romantic comedy is officially on the way, and honestly? We love to see it. Director and writer Gary Jaffe has wrapped production on Before I Do, an upcoming queer rom-com that’s already checking a lot of our favorite boxes: messy feelings, complicated friendships, pre-wedding chaos, and a whole lot of heart. The news was first shared by Variety, and ever since, we haven’t been able to stop thinking about what this lakeside love story might have in store.

As longtime lovers of the rom-com genre, and especially queer rom-coms, we’re always excited when new stories centered on LGBTQ+ characters get the spotlight they deserve. For years, the genre has thrived on straight wedding jitters and last-minute confessions, so seeing those familiar tropes reimagined through a queer lens feels both refreshing and long overdue. Before I Do seems poised to do just that, blending romantic tension with chosen family dynamics and the kind of emotional chaos that feels all too relatable.

According to the film’s official description, Before I Do “follows a lakeside bachelor party weekend that devolves into chaos when the groom and his best man’s past romantic feelings reignite, entangling the wedding party—their college BFFs and the groom’s not-so-straight best friend—in the chaotic pre-wedding drama.” And look, we don’t need much more than that to be fully on board. A secluded weekend, unresolved feelings, queer longing, and a wedding countdown? That description alone already has us hooked. We’re especially intrigued by what it means for these characters to confront past feelings in a space that’s supposed to be all about celebration—and how queerness complicates (and enriches) those moments.

The cast only adds to the excitement. The film stars Cole Doman, Michael Hsu Rosen, Nico Greetham, Robin de Jesús, and Jared Reinfeldt—an ensemble that promises chemistry, charm, and emotional depth. Behind the scenes, Gary Jaffe is backed by a strong producing team, including Thomas Wallis of Two Canz Films and Emily McCann Lesser with Monarch Kaleidoscope, known for films like Fantasy Life and Farewell Amor. Executive producers include Joe Pirro (The Wedding Banquet, We Grown Now), Henry Russell Bergstein—who also serves as casting director—along with Andrew Tobias, Alex Bilbao, and Frank Glaser.

Before I Do was shot on location in the Berkshires region of Massachusetts, with principal photography completed in Otis. There’s something especially fitting about placing this kind of intimate, emotionally charged queer story in a scenic, secluded setting, perfect for secrets to spill and feelings to resurface.

There’s still plenty we don’t know about Before I Do, but if this is the setup, we’re more than ready to RSVP. More LGBTQ+ rom-coms, please! We’ll never get tired of watching queer characters fall in love, fall apart, and maybe find their way back to each other just in time.
