Pride 2025: A Q+ Celebration!

June 24

Invisible Boys by Holden Sheppard

Set in the conservative landscape of rural Western Australia, Invisible Boys is a raw and powerful YA novel that follows three queer teens—Charlie, Hammer, and Zeke—as they each grapple with their identities in a town that refuses to see them. Charlie hides behind a rebellious rocker persona, Hammer is the golden boy footy jock with everything to lose, and Zeke is the academic perfectionist suffocating under expectations he never chose. But none of them are out. Not really.

Holden Sheppard doesn’t flinch away from the harsh realities of growing up gay in a place where masculinity is rigid, shame runs deep, and silence can be deadly. Invisible Boys explores trauma, anger, and vulnerability with unflinching honesty, but it also offers hope—hope that truth, once spoken, can be freeing. This one’s for the misfits who felt invisible, and for the stories that demand to be seen.

Where to buy? Invisible Boys is available to purchase at all reputable booksellers.

G.B.F. (Gay Best Friend)

This 2013 teen comedy may have flown under the radar, but G.B.F. (directed by Jawbreaker’s Darren Stein) is a queer cult classic in its own right. When closeted high schooler Tanner is accidentally outed, he suddenly becomes the most sought-after accessory: a Gay Best Friend for the school’s three rival queen bees. The film hilariously skewers high school stereotypes, performative allyship, and the idea that queerness is trendy, without ever losing its heart.

With a vibrant cast including Michael J. Willett, Sasha Pieterse, and Natasha Lyonne, G.B.F. is smart, campy, and unafraid to poke fun at both the popular crowd and the tokenism that LGBTQ+ teens often face. It’s Mean Girls meets Clueless with a fresh queer twist, and it still holds up as a reminder that coming out is no one’s business but your own.

Where to watch? G.B.F is available to stream on Tubi and Pluto TV; it’s available for rental on Apple TV and Prime Video.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love

Messy, emotional, and totally binge-worthy, The Ultimatum: Queer Love flips the hetero-dating reality show format on its head. This Netflix spin-off follows five couples made up entirely of queer women and nonbinary people as they navigate the pressure of commitment. One partner is ready to get married, the other… not so much. Enter the ultimatum, trial marriages with other contestants, and lots (we mean lots) of emotional whiplash.

While it serves up drama in spades, the show also gives viewers a rare chance to see the complexity and beauty of queer relationships centered on-screen, flaws and all. It’s messy, it’s real, it’s wildly addictive, and it’s about damn time reality TV caught up with the rest of us. Also, a new season drops tomorrow, so it’s literally the perfect time to binge!

Where to watch? The Ultimatum: Queer Love is available to stream on Netflix.
