Pride 2025: A Q+ Celebration!

June 1

My Old Ass

If you’ve ever wondered what your future self would say to you at 18, My Old Ass has an answer, and it’s surprisingly queer, hilarious, and tender. This charming coming-of-age comedy follows Elliott (Maisy Stella), a sarcastic, no-nonsense teenager about to head off to college. But just before she leaves her family’s blueberry farm in rural Ontario, a magic mushroom-fueled trip introduces her to… herself. Well, her 39-year-old self, played with dry wit and heart by none other than Aubrey Plaza.

What unfolds is a thoughtful and refreshingly queer look at how our identities evolve with time, and how messy and beautiful it is to grow into yourself. My Old Ass gives us the queer teen representation we’ve always craved, with a storyline that balances absurd humor with genuine emotion. It’s about trusting your gut, questioning everything, and maybe falling in love with someone unexpected. Basically, it’s the queer coming-of-age movie we wish we had growing up.

Where to watch? My Old Ass is available to stream on Prime Video.

Clean Slate

Let’s be real, Pride isn’t just about celebration; it’s also about healing, reconnection, and the joy that comes with being fully seen. Clean Slate brings all of that to the table with a ton of heart and a whole lot of laughs. The sitcom stars Laverne Cox as Desiree, a sharp, confident trans woman who returns to her conservative Alabama hometown to mend fences with her estranged father, Harry (played by George Wallace). The twist? Harry had no idea his child had transitioned.

What could’ve easily been a story rooted in trauma is instead filled with warmth, wit, and surprising tenderness. Clean Slate doesn’t shy away from difficult conversations, but it also makes room for joy, awkward reunions, and the weird humor that comes with learning to love someone again after years apart. It’s a refreshing take on queer representation—especially for Black trans women—and it reminds us that Pride also means making space for complicated families and second chances.

Where to watch? Clean Slate is streaming on Prime Video.

The Pairing by Casey McQuiston

You didn’t think we’d start Pride Month without a swoony queer rom-com, did you? The Pairing is Casey McQuiston’s latest offering, and if you’re already obsessed with their signature brand of heartfelt chaos (Red, White & Royal Blue, anyone?), you’re going to devour this one. The story follows Theo and Kit, two childhood besties turned almost-lovers turned very much exes, who suddenly find themselves stuck on the same high-end food and wine tour through Europe. Sounds deliciously awkward, right?

As they sip wine in Tuscany and accidentally share hotel rooms in Paris, old sparks start to reignite. But what makes this book stand out isn’t just the mouth-watering settings or swoon-worthy banter—it’s the way McQuiston writes about bisexuality, emotional baggage, and the healing power of reconnecting with the person who knows you best. The Pairing is queer romance at its finest: a love story about second chances, honest communication, and the very real fear of opening yourself back up. It’s sweet, sexy, and full of heart—and we’re obsessed.

Where to buy? The Pairing is available to purchase at all reputable booksellers.
