Openly trans character coming to Fortnite game
Fortnite is going queer! It’s September, and in the gaming world, that means it’s Rainbow Royale time, and this year Fortnite is introducing an openly trans character into the mix. ‘Dreamer’ was the first DC trans superhero to appear on television in the show Supergirl and was played by trans actor Nicole Maines.
Dreamer is a trans girl whose abilities dabble in the realms of precognition, dream walking, astral projection, and energy projection. When Dreamer was introduced to the Supergirl universe, creator Bill Berlanti said that he felt like the Arrowverse was behind the times because it completely lacked any kind of trans representation. This resulted in the creation of Dreamer’s storyline.
At the announcement of her character, this was the statement made:
“A confident, wunderkind of a fashionista. Once a political speechwriter, Nia is the newest addition to the Catco investigative reporting team. With her she brings sparkling wit and biting humor but under that banter-y, chic façade, lays a soulful young woman who has much to offer the world. A young Cat Grant type.”
Dreamer’s visuals, as they are set to appear in Fortnite, have been leaked online by Fortnite leakers HYPEX, ShiinaBR and XTigerHyperX with information pulled from the game’s files. Other than this, not a lot else is known at this point about her role in the game.
Rainbow Royale is an LGBTQ+ pride event which showcases new queer content and cosmestics for the players. It’s an annual celebration that is widely participated in by many gamers. Last year, folks were treated to an array of rainbow themed objects and items, sprays, and emotes.
In addition to these tidbits, the Rainbow Royale update gives players the options to actually use rainbow items within the games. This year the event is rumored to include such things as a giant rainbow mullet (aptly named the Kaleido-Crusher), lobby music called “Say it Loud” and the ability to make their characters dip, ballroom style (because nothing screams queer louder than a dance dive).
Queer gamers unite and send the message of love around: Dreamer is coming to town!
