Jae XO Dances Into Their Power with “Dancin’ in the Full Moon”
There’s something brewing under the October moon, and it’s Jae XO’s most enchanting release yet. The rising transgender pop artist has returned with Dancin’ in the Full Moon, a hypnotic, high-energy dance-pop anthem that feels tailor-made for spooky season. From its disco pulse to its witchy flair, the track is pure Jae XO: confident, unapologetic, and bursting with trans magic.
Produced by Velvet Code and recorded with three-time Grammy-winning engineer Denise Barbarita, Dancin’ in the Full Moon channels the irresistible groove that made us fall for Jae XO’s breakout hit Fabulous, but turns the volume all the way up. “This one is sexier, catchier, and more thrilling than anything else I’ve ever written,” Jae says. “I know it will become a haunting household hit for years to come.”
The song’s spark came from an unexpected place. Battling writer’s block, Jae turned to ritual, brewing a fragrant herbal blend of peppermint, lavender, rose, and rosemary to clear their mind. As the steam rose, so did inspiration. “I was immediately hit with a groove that made my bones move,” Jae recalls. “It was the fastest I’ve ever written a song, and within days I had a full demo ready.”

Dancin’ in the Full Moon is a radiant celebration of trans resilience and self-expression. “Trans people are mystical, powerful beings who fight through hell and back just to live authentically,” Jae says. “Dancin’ in the Full Moon is about harnessing that inner strength, charging ourselves with confidence and expression, and finding joy in the fight.”
That sense of empowerment pulses through every beat. The track’s shimmering brass flourishes and witchy bridge—complete with an actual spell—make it the perfect soundtrack for pumpkin-carving nights, Halloween parties, or solo dance sessions under the moonlight.
But for Jae XO, the song’s message runs deeper than its irresistible rhythm. “Dan Savage once said, ‘During the darkest days of the AIDS crisis, we buried our friends in the morning, protested in the afternoon, and danced all night.’ This song will make people want to dance, but it’s never just dancing. It’s mourning, it’s fighting, and it’s celebrating all at once.”

Supported by a creative “coven” of collaborators, including Evan Nicholas, Kimi Handa Brown, Sammy Daoud, and Lone Ace Design’s Langley and Luis, Jae XO has crafted a full moon fantasy of sound and style. And while a music video is still a dream in progress, the artist’s vision burns bright rooted in community and queer pride. “As an independent trans artist, I know I’m swimming upstream for visibility,” she says. “But I carry on because I know how much it means for my community to see us thriving and taking up space. That keeps me moving forward.”
With Dancin’ in the Full Moon now streaming everywhere, Jae XO reminds us that dancing—especially as queer and trans people—is never just movement. It’s resistance, release, and rebirth under the glow of our own magic.
