I Kissed A Girl Is the Sapphic Reality Show We’ve Been Waiting For

After the success of I Kissed A Boy in 2023, it was only a matter of time before the girls got their turn in the spotlight. BBC Three has delivered with I Kissed A Girl, a reality TV show that’s not just a spin-off but a sapphic sensation in its own right. Now streaming on Hulu, this 10-episode series is everything we’ve been waiting for and more.

With the iconic Dannii Minogue hosting and LGBTQ+ presenter Charley Marlowe narrating, we’re taken on a journey alongside ten incredible women (and yes, a few more surprise arrivals) as they navigate the complexities of love. The premise is as bold as it is simple: ten single women, each matched based on what they’re seeking in a partner, meet for the first time—but there’s no time for small talk. Their first connection is made through a kiss. That’s right, no introductions, no first-date jitters—just a kiss that could spark a romance or fizzle out before it even begins.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of an Italian country house known as the “Masseria,” the women explore their new connections over the course of nine episodes. The tenth episode, a reunion special, reveals the true outcomes of these summer flings—but we’ll let you discover that for yourselves.

In the first episode, we’re introduced to a fantastic mix of women: makeup artist and hair stylist Abbie Cole, social media manager Amy Spalding, support worker Cara Kinney, publishing executive Demi Echezona, drummer Fiorenza Cocozza, professional footballer Georgia Robert, psychology undergraduate Alishia “Lisha” Paige, fire breather Megan Homer, engineer Naee Stoute, and hotel customer service specialist Priya Sohanpal.

These ladies form five initial couples: Priya with Naee, Amy with Meg, Lisha with Abbie, Demi with Fiorenza, and Georgia with Cara. As sparks fly and sometimes fizzle, it’s clear that not all of these matches are made in heaven. And just like in the Masseria, where the motto is “everyone is a possibility,” the relationships begin to shift as new women arrive, adding even more drama and excitement to the mix.

But how does the show really work? Imagine a sapphic Love Island—but with a refreshing twist. At the end of some episodes, there’s a kiss-off where previously coupled-up contestants can choose to stay with their current partner by kissing them again or save their kiss for someone else. If the decision isn’t mutual, eliminations follow. The drama is real, the emotions are raw, and the twists keep us on the edge of our seats. It’s everything we love about reality TV, with an added layer of authenticity that makes it feel all the more genuine.

One of the things that sets I Kissed A Girl apart is the lack of a grand prize. There’s no cash, no trophy—just the chance to find love. This format eliminates the strategic gameplay often seen in other dating shows, leaving these women to focus solely on their connections. Spending a summer in Italy with the hope of finding the girl of your dreams? That’s the real prize, and it’s nothing short of beautiful.

The diversity of the cast is another standout feature of the show. With women from various backgrounds, identities, and orientations—including bi-representation—the series offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of the LGBTQ+ community. The interactions between the contestants are portrayed with an honesty that highlights both the joys and challenges of same-sex relationships. It’s a reminder that at the end of the day, we’re all searching for the same thing: someone who loves us for who we truly are.

Sapphic representation in mainstream media is still far too rare. Too often, shows featuring sapphic love stories are canceled before they have a chance to shine. That’s why I Kissed A Girl is such a breath of fresh air. It’s a hopeful sign that more shows like this can succeed, showcasing the beauty and complexity of sapphic love.

And while I Kissed A Girl is currently only available on Hulu and on BBC Three, we’re crossing our fingers that it’ll soon be accessible on even more platforms. This show is a true gem, and it deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.

I Kissed A Girl isn’t just a reality TV show—it’s a celebration of love in all its forms. It’s a reminder that everyone deserves a shot at happiness, and sometimes, all it takes is a kiss to start something amazing. Here’s hoping we see more shows like this in the future. Because let’s face it—we need them.
