Hannah Gadsby to push gender queer agenda in multi-title deal with Netflix

If you’re into queer comedy, then Hannah Gadsby is likely a staple in your household. The Emmy and Peabody Award winning comedian is back with a gender queer agenda that will span several titles to be aired on Netflix. The first title includes another hour long stand up special recorded in Australia on their current world tour “Body of Work”. The special is slated to be recorded at the Sydney Opera House.

The show, which will premier in 2023, will be filmed this week and is Gadsby’s third Netflix special. Douglas aired in 2020 and was subsequently nominated for two Primetime Emmy awards and won an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award (AACTA). Nanette, which skyrocketed Gadsby into international fame, has won both a Peabody Award and a Primetime Emmy.

Gadsby will then produce and host a special featuring six gender queer comics from all around the world. When speaking on the issue, Gadsby told Netflix, “In an effort to further open a door that I had to fight to get through myself, I will curate and host a line-up show on Netflix featuring six new, gender-diverse comedians. In a notoriously transphobic industry, I am looking to broaden the scope of opportunities for genderqueer performers from around the globe, as well as expand the diversity of offerings to audiences on one of comedy’s biggest platforms.

“Coupled with a mentorship initiative for these up-and-coming comics, the program aims to foster the professional development of a demographic that is still struggling to have their voices heard. Recorded in a single run in the UK in 2023, this will be a chance for the world to hear these voices for the first, but definitely not the last, time.”

Hannah Gadsby is a Q+ Magazine favorite around here and this is very exciting news indeed. Congratulations to Gadsby for this tremendous accomplishment and thank you for all the work you’re doing to advance the anti trans agenda intoxicating our spaces right now.

Stay tuned as more information about these two exciting projects is released.
