‘Good Omens’ Season 3: Just One Final Feature-Length Episode to Wrap Up Crowley and Aziraphale’s Story

After months of rumors and whispers of what was going to happen with Good Omens Season 3 after pre-production had reportedly been stopped, the news is finally out—and it’s a bit of a gut punch: the show is wrapping up its story with just one final feature-length episode.

We know—it’s hard to take in, especially since we were all excited for a full six-episode season to see how Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley’s (David Tenant) journey would end. But given everything that’s been happening behind the scenes, we’ve got to see this as a win. Things could’ve gone a lot worse. Amazon could have canceled the whole thing, so at least we’re getting a proper ending—though we can’t help but feel a bit heartbroken by the news.

In case you missed the drama that’s been unfolding, earlier this year, a podcast titled Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman rocked the Good Omens fandom. Neil Gaiman, co-creator of the show, was accused of sexual assault by five women. Though Gaiman denied the allegations, he made the decision to step away from the production of the final season so that it could move forward without him at the helm. As announced today, this move allowed the show to continue under new leadership, with Gaiman contributing only to the writing. However, the consequences were still felt—and what was supposed to be a six-episode season has now been cut down to a single, 90-minute installment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the final feature-length episode will begin filming early next year in Scotland, with plans to premiere on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories. While the story may be shorter than we hoped, Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions, and Narrativia are all still backing the production. Rob Wilkins, representing Terry Pratchett’s estate, and BBC’s head of comedy Josh Cole will serve as executive producers.

So, what happened to our beloved angel and demon in Season 2? After preventing Armageddon and surviving a near-apocalypse (Season 1), Aziraphale and Crowley tried to settle into their cozy life on Earth. But that peace didn’t last long. Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) showed up naked in Aziraphale’s bookshop with no memory of who he was—bringing all sorts of trouble along with him.

Season 2’s finale left us all gasping when Aziraphale was offered the chance to replace Gabriel as the archangel of Heaven, with the power to bring Crowley back as an angel too. Crowley, though, wasn’t having it—he knew Heaven’s (and Hell too, but we digress) real aim was war, and he wanted no part of it. In one heartbreaking moment, Crowley confessed his feelings to Aziraphale, but it was too late. Aziraphale had already made up his mind, leaving for Heaven while Crowley drove away in his iconic Bentley.

We were all set for Season 3 to pick up where that emotional cliffhanger left us. It was originally planned as a six-episode arc and would be the answer to a conversation from 35 years ago between Gaiman and the late Sir Terry Pratchett about what happens next for these beloved characters. Now, that story will be condensed into just one final feature-length episode.

It’s definitely not what we wanted, but it’s a clear reminder that off-screen actions have very real consequences—and this is just one of them.

While we’re incredibly disappointed that Good Omens has been affected by its creator’s off-screen controversies, we’re still grateful that we’ll get some form of closure. As we wait for that final installment, we can only hope that the 90 minutes we’ve been promised will do justice to the love, depth, and complexity of Crowley and Aziraphale’s story. They deserve a proper send-off, and we deserve a satisfying conclusion to this adventure.
