First look at Heartstopper, Netflix’s new coming-of-age LGBTQ teen drama
After months of anticipation, Netflix has finally unveiled the first trailer and release date for Heartstopper, the streaming service’s latest teen show, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. The eight-episode series is an adaptation of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series of the same name.
The premise of the show is pretty simple: “Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love.” But Heartstopper is much more than that.
When gentle Charlie (Joe Locke) and rugby-loving Nick (Kit Connor) meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick, and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self-discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.
The British coming-of-age LGBTQ drama is coming to Netflix on April 22, and in the first teaser trailer, we can already see the emotionally vulnerable take that the show will follow.
Heartstopper stars Joe Locke as Charlie Spring and Kit Connor as Nick Nelson. The rest of the cast includes William Gao as Tao Xu, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson, Jenny Walser as Tori Spring, Sebastian Croft as Ben Hope, Cormac Hyde-Corrin as Harry Greene, Rhea Norwood as Imogen Heaney, Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson, Fisayo Akinade as Mr Ajayi, Chetna Pandya as Coach Singh and Alan Turkington as Mr Lange.
The show comes from the production company See Saw Films and is executive produced by Patrick Walters. All eight episodes were written and created by the original graphic novel’s writer Alice Oseman, and directed by Euros Lyn (Doctor Who, Sherlock, Black Mirror and Daredevil).
