Fear Street Is Back and Prom Night Might Just Be Killer

We’re not going to lie, we’ve been waiting for this one. As huge fans of the original Fear Street trilogy, we were absolutely ready for another blood-soaked trip back to Shadyside, and Netflix is giving it to us. That’s right, Fear Street is back, folks, and this time, we’re heading straight to prom.

Before the film’s official release on May 23 (save the date, horror lovers), Netflix just dropped the trailer for the newest installment Fear Street: Prom Queen—along with the official poster and a set of production stills—and it looks good. Bloody, stylish, nostalgic, and mysterious in all the right ways.

Based on The Prom Queen (1992), one of the many spooky entries in R.L. Stine’s iconic Fear Street book series, Prom Queen is now the fourth film in the Fear Street franchise. Set in 1988, the movie follows the students of Shadyside High as they prep for prom. As expected, the “It Girls” are battling it out for the crown… but when a surprise nominee enters the race, the other contenders start vanishing one by one.

The official logline for the films reads: “Welcome back to Shadyside. In this next installment of the blood-soaked Fear Street franchise, prom season at Shadyside High is underway, and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.”

Now, we don’t know just how queer this next installment is going to be, but between the eerie trailer, the stylized stills, and the franchise’s already queer-friendly track record (hello, Deena and Sam!), we’re feeling hopeful that Prom Queen will serve some LGBTQ+ goodness too.

But hey, don’t just take our word for it. You can check out the trailer for Fear Street: Prom Queen below and see for yourself.

Fear Street: Prom Queen is directed by Matt Palmer, who also co-wrote the script with Donald McLeary. The film is produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kori Adelson for Chernin Entertainment, with Yvonne Bernard, Joan Waricha, and Jane Stine serving as executive producers.

The film stars India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Ariana Greenblatt, Lili Taylor, and Katherine Waterston. The additional cast includes Darrin Baker, Rebecca Ablack, Ilan O’Driscoll, Damian Romeo, Dakota Taylor, Eden Summer Gilmore, Brennan Clost, Cecilia Lee, and Ryan Rosery.

We seriously can’t wait for Fear Street: Prom Queen to hit Netflix this May. But until then, feast your eyes on the official stills from the film below.
