Exclusive Interview with Omar Rudberg: An Inside Look at ‘Every Night Fantasy’

We’re no strangers to chatting with Omar Rudberg. In the past, we’ve had the absolute privilege of speaking with him about his Netflix hit show Young Royals, and every time, our experiences have been nothing short of fantastic. But something about this latest conversation felt special. Maybe it was the relaxed vibe, the anticipation of Every Night Fantasy being out in a matter of hours, the extra time we had, or the fact that we switched between English and Spanish to connect with both sides of his incredibly diverse fanbase. Whatever the reason, we had an absolute blast!

When Omar Rudberg burst onto the global scene, he brought a magnetic mix of talent, charm, and authenticity that quickly won over fans. Whether it’s his acting chops or his music career, Omar consistently delivers, blending his Venezuelan heritage with his Swedish upbringing to create something truly unique. With the release of his EP Every Night Fantasy, Omar is diving deeper into his sound, exploring a more pop-influenced vibe, and expanding his creative horizons.

There’s no doubt that Every Night Fantasy marks an exciting new chapter in his music career. During our chat, the pride Omar felt for this project was crystal clear. “I feel very excited; I’m really happy with how it all turned out,” he shared with a huge smile. This EP has been in the works for a while—some songs have been with him for over two years—so you could really feel the excitement of finally releasing it.

“I’ve been working on this EP and all these songs for a couple of months now; some songs I’ve had for like two years, so it’s been a journey,” he said. Despite the nerves, Omar is clearly thrilled for fans to finally hear the finished product. “I think people will find a song or songs in the EP that they enjoy and relate to,” he added, reflecting on the wide range of emotions captured in the new songs.

In fact, that’s what makes Every Night Fantasy so special—its mix of different vibes and feelings, which wasn’t easy to nail down. “That was actually the hardest part,” Omar admitted when talking about choosing the final track list for the EP. With so many songs he loved, narrowing them down was a challenge. “I had a lot of songs to choose from, and I loved them all. It was a lot of thinking and feeling.” Each track, as he explained, represents a different piece of him: “Every song is a little bit of me.”

Interestingly, the fan-favorite Sabotage almost didn’t make it onto the EP. “It was the one that felt the most different from all of the others,” Omar confessed. He had his doubts at first but was convinced by his team to include it. “Everyone around me was like, ‘You know what? Sabotage is a great song.’” And it’s clear they were right—before the release of  Every Night Fantasy, Sabotage was his biggest debut track from the EP, and as Omar proudly said, “Everyone loved it!”

The emotional connection fans have with Omar’s music is undeniable. When we asked which unreleased track he was most excited for fans to hear, Omar didn’t hesitate to name Wrong. “It’s a very powerful song,” he told us, explaining how much he believes fans will connect with its energy. “I feel like a lot of people enjoy it when I do ballads,” Omar shared with a laugh, adding that his friends are always quick to point out their love for his more emotional songs. And as a special treat, he revealed that a live version of Wrong is on the way, so fans can expect even more from this heart-wrenching ballad.

However, Wrong isn’t Omar’s favorite from the EP, but another standout track from it: Lose Me—which he wrote himself. He shared that this song is particularly special to him, as it explores the vulnerability of love and the many ups and downs of losing someone. “It’s about post-breakup, but also about how I’m also happy about the breakup because now I feel better, but also a little kind of sad. Like, why did it have to end? But at the same time ‘Thank you!’ You know what I mean? It’s like a little bit of both. ” he explained.

With the release of Every Night Fantasy and his upcoming tour, which kicks off today Monday, October 21, in London, Omar’s journey as an artist is reaching new heights. He expressed his excitement for performing these new songs live for the first time, saying, “I am beyond excited. I’ve been waiting for this moment all year!” The anticipation of connecting with fans in an intimate setting only adds to his enthusiasm: “It’s gonna be sweaty, hot, dance-friendly, emotional.” Omar expressed, bubbling with excitement. He also teased that fans should get ready for a mix of high-energy performances and emotional moments, promising, “It’s going to be an amazing time!”

As a surprise, and because we love to listen to our readers, we decided to switch things up halfway through the interview and continue our conversation in Spanish—a move we knew would resonate with his fans. Omar seemed ready to dive in and talk about his Latin roots, proudly asserting, “Well, it’s very important. I was born in Venezuela; my mom is Venezuelan. My whole family is from Venezuela. So for me, I mean, I’m Venezuelan. I have it in my blood, you know?” This strong connection to his roots shapes his artistry, as he emphasizes, “I always try to incorporate Latin culture in some way, whether it’s singing in Spanish or having a more Latin production.”

Navigating the music industry as a Latino artist comes with its challenges, and Omar candidly shared, “I’ve felt that we Latinos sometimes have to work twice as hard.” He cited his mother’s journey as a Latina in Sweden, saying, “Being an independent Latina woman in a country on the other side of the world is not easy.” Despite the obstacles, he remains focused on his passion for music: “I just do what I love. I love music; I love singing, so I just do it. I am who I am, and I do what I love.”

Collaboration is key in the music industry, and when asked about potential artists he would love to work with, Omar excitedly mentioned his admiration for fellow Latino artists: “Now that we’re speaking in Spanish, I immediately thought of Rosalía. I think Rosalía and I could create something fantastic.”

His love for various artists is palpable, “I love Bad Bunny too; he’s another Latino artist that I really like. I love his style.” He added, and even gushed about his and his mom’s love for Karol G. “I love Karol G! My goodness, my mom and I adore her. I think my mom loves her even more than I do. We always listen to Karol G, Bad Bunny, and Rosalía at home.”

Omar’s multilingual abilities enhance his artistry, and he noted how he draws inspiration from one of his favorite artists, Rihanna, aiming to incorporate his roots into his music just as she does. “I love that mix [that she does of incorporating Caribbean rhythms into her songs], and it’s something that I try to do with my music—singing pop but also incorporating Latin rhythms, you know, or singing in Spanish from time to time.”

When discussing the differences in singing in Spanish versus other languages, Omar explained, “Spanish feels a bit harder because it’s closer to me. It’s my language, so Spanish is very special for me.” This passion for his native tongue is evident in his work, especially in the Spanish version of Red Light, which he decided to add to the EP in response to fan requests. “It gave me that idea…I really wanted the lyrics for La Luz Roja to be very specific.”

He also shared the collaborative process behind the translation, saying, “A girl helped me write it, and then I jumped in and changed some words…I love working with people; I give them an idea, and they give me one, and we create it together.”

As for future projects, Omar assured us that more Spanish songs are on the way, laughing, “We’re working on that. Of course, I will always continue singing in Spanish.” He expressed a strong desire to incorporate more Latin elements into his music even if it’s in English: “I still want to incorporate Spanish and Latin culture into my music. I’m working on that now.”

Fans will be thrilled to hear that Omar has big plans for his tour. Although he’s still working on the details, when asked about performing in Latin America, he shared, “I really want to go to Latin America. I want to visit all those countries and meet all the fans there.” He assured us, “I think, step by step, one day I will be in Latin America, and I’ll have my shows there. Really.”

As our conversation wrapped up, we asked Omar what advice he would give to fans trying to find their own voice. His encouraging words resonated deeply: “I believe that with time, as you grow, you find yourself…I think you have to take your time as well. Don’t be so hard on yourself; I believe it will come. I’m here, and I love you. Take your time because I know that one day you will be thriving.”

He ended the interview on a heartfelt note, expressing gratitude to his fans: “I love you, thank you so much for the support, and I can’t wait to see you guys [on tour]. Enjoy Every Night Fantasy!”
