Emilia Pérez Arrives in Theaters and on Netflix This November
We’re thrilled to announce that Emilia Pérez, the double Cannes-winning film, is making its way to selected theaters on November 1, 2024, across the US and Canada. And for those of you who prefer streaming, the film will also be available on Netflix in the US, Canada, and the UK shortly after its theatrical release (November 13).
Emilia Pérez is a 2024 French musical crime comedy film, masterfully crafted by Jacques Audiard, who also wrote and directed it. The film, based on Audiard’s opera libretto of the same name, draws inspiration from Boris Razon’s 2018 novel Écoute. With a star-studded cast that includes Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez, this film is a must-see.
Emilia Pérez premiered on May 18, 2024, at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it not only competed for the prestigious Palme d’Or but also took home the Jury Prize and saw its female ensemble honored with the Best Actress award.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Mexico, Emilia Pérez is an audacious fever dream that boldly defies genres and expectations. The film’s journey is brought to life through liberating song and dance, complemented by striking visuals. At its heart is the story of four remarkable women, each on a quest for their own happiness. Emilia (played by trans actress Karla Sofía Gascón), a fearsome cartel leader, decides it’s time to live authentically.
To do so, she enlists the help of Rita (Zoe Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer trapped in a dead-end job, to fake her death and start anew as her true self. This bold and liberating narrative not only promises an entertaining ride but also resonates deeply with LGBTQ+ themes of identity, transformation, and self-acceptance.
