Bobby Newberry Finds Light in Loss With New Single “Feelin’”
Grief is one of life’s hardest journeys, but it can also spark some of the most moving art. After stepping away from music for two years to care for his late husband, TJ, and grief, Bobby Newberry is back with Feelin’. A glowing new single that honors their love while reminding us of the joy that can still be found after heartbreak.
Co-produced with Theory, Feelin’ is a departure from the electrifying, dance-heavy energy of Newberry’s debut album Dopamine Rollercoaster. Instead, the track leans into softness and intimacy, weaving together layers of vocals that shimmer with warmth and nostalgia. “This one just feels like love and light to me,” Newberry explains. “It makes me smile when I listen to it and remember moments with TJ. The world needs more of that joy right now.”
The inspiration for the song came from one of their happiest trips together. “I wrote this song when TJ and I were in Capri on my favorite trip we ever took together,” he shares. “The opening line says, you feel like Capri summer and breezy. It’s about that childlike, carefree happiness you get when you’re with someone who brings out the best in you. For me, it was about us, but I think everyone can relate to it.”
That universal feeling is exactly what makes Feelin’ so special. It’s both deeply personal and widely relatable, a tribute to queer love, but also a song anyone can connect to, whether through a relationship, a friendship, or a fleeting moment of joy. “He was the most beautiful, selfless person on the planet,” Newberry says of TJ. “Watching him go through that [cancer] consumed everything. Nothing else mattered. But I know he would want me to release music again. This song is for him, and for everyone who’s ever felt that kind of love.”
To showcase just how lush and layered the song really is, Newberry also dropped an a cappella version on streaming platforms. With hundreds of background vocal layers building into a climactic final minute, it feels almost like listening to his own personal choir, a unique and intimate twist on the track.
At the end of the day, Feelin’ transforms sorrow into something bright, playful, and hopeful. It’s a celebration of love in its purest form, and a reminder that even in the wake of loss, joy still has a place. Feelin’ is available now on all major streaming platforms, so press play, turn it up, and let it carry you somewhere full of light.
