10DANCE Trailer: Netflix’s Queer Ballroom Film Gets December 18 Release Date
It’s finally happening, and by finally, we mean finally. After months of waiting and speculating, Netflix has dropped the official 10DANCE trailer and confirmed the release date for its long-awaited queer film adaptation of 10 Dance, the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Inouesatou. Back in February, we shared that the adaptation was coming sometime in December, though at the time all we had was a single still image to swoon over. Today, Netflix decided to go all in: new production stills, an official trailer, a poster, and the long-awaited premiere date. What? Yeah, they really dropped it all at once.
First things first: 10DANCE will hit Netflix globally on December 18, giving us just over a month to dust off our dancing shoes and learn the difference between a natural turn and a reverse one. Footwork. Timing. Frame. Spin. CBM. You name it. Because by all accounts, this movie is about to take us deep into the art (and intimacy) of ballroom dance.
Based on Inouesatou’s beloved and undeniably queer manga, 10DANCE follows Shinya Suzuki (Ryoma Takeuchi), Japan’s reigning Latin Dance champion, and Shinya Sugiki (Keita Machida), the country’s Standard Ballroom champion, and the second-ranked dancer in the world. They’ve long been rivals, often compared because of their nearly identical names despite competing in different categories. For Suzuki, the constant comparison is a source of frustration, until Sugiki surprises him with a proposal: to team up and take on the ultimate challenge, the 10-Dance Competition.

The 10-Dance is a competition in which top dancers perform five varieties of Latin Dance and five varieties of Standard Ballroom. At first, Suzuki refuses, wary of the impossible odds. But Sugiki’s provocative charm and quiet confidence ignite something in him. As they begin training together, their clashing personalities give way to mutual respect…and eventually, undeniable attraction.
And let’s just say, if the 10DANCE trailer is anything to go by, there’s fire on that dance floor. With the tagline “What’s beyond love?,” the trailer teases a story full of tension, longing, and movement so intimate it borders on confessional. The choreography looks stunning, the chemistry electric, and the slow-burn romance? Exactly the kind of queer yearning we live for.
The film is directed by Keishi Otomo (Rurouni Kenshin), produced by Takako Miyauchi and Kota Ishizuka, and stars Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida in the lead roles. They’re joined by Shiori Doi, Anna Ishii, Shinya Hamada, Oshiro Maeda, Nadiya Bychkova, Susie Trayling, and Pasquale La Rocca. A lineup that promises a mix of talent from both the dance world and the screen.
For longtime fans of the manga, 10DANCE has been one of those dream projects—a rare blend of sportsmanship, sensuality, and slow-burn queer tension told through the discipline of ballroom dance. Seeing it come to life in live action feels both thrilling and overdue. For those new to the story, the 10DANCE trailer offers a perfect first look into this world of movement, rivalry, and unexpected intimacy.
We’ll be obsessively counting down the days until December 18, probably rereading the manga (yes, again) just to emotionally prepare for what’s to come, replaying that 10DANCE trailer on loop and scrolling through the stunning production stills below. Because honestly, if the dance floor looks this good now, we can only imagine how much hotter it’ll get once the music starts.
